También me conocen como tagüita, polla pintada, polla sabanera, polla de agua pico verde, pollona pintada y tingua moteada.  Soy muy buena nadadora y buceadora como todas las pollas de agua y evito volar. Mi pecho, cuello y la parte trasera de mi cabeza son de color gris plomizo. Mi dorso es castaño. Tengo el pico y las patas verde amarillo. El iris de mis ojos es rojo.

Soy una excelente nadadora y vivo a las orillas de rios y lagunas. Usualmente me alimento de la vegetación acuática. Soy presa de aves rapaces y otros mamíferos predatorios que acechan especialmente en la temporada de reproducción.
